Originally from Natchitoches, Louisiana, Lisa was Louisiana’s Junior Miss in 1976, receiving a scholarship to Troy State University in Alabama. Lisa was active in scholastic as well as social fraternities and held a position on the Panhellenic Counsel at Troy State, while working summers as an actress with the Louisiana Outdoor Drama Association. In 1980, she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology, after completing an internship at St. Margaret’s Hospital in Montgomery, Alabama. In 1982, Lisa enrolled at the Paul M. Hebert Law Center at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, where she later received a Board of Supervisor’s Scholarship. During law school, she worked as an Ombudsman at LSU and clerked for 17th Judicial District Court Judge Wollen Falgout in Lafourche Parish. Upon graduation in 1985, Lisa worked for two years in a general civil practice before moving to Lafayette in 1988 where her law practice included insurance defense. She has extensive trial experience, and has presented mock trial demonstrations for risk management groups and conducts seminars focusing on insurance and litigation matters. Lisa was a member of the American Inns of Court of Acadiana from 1990- 1992. Lisa is licensed to practice law before all Louisiana State Courts, the United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, and all United States District Courts in Louisiana. She is a member of the Louisiana State and Lafayette Parish Bar Associations. Lisa is married to Danny McCowen and they have two daughters.
