Born in Hammond, Louisiana, Mike grew up in LaPlace, where he was recruited to play college football. He graduated with distinction from the University of Southwestern Louisiana at Lafayette; receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. Mike received his Juris Doctorate in 1991 from Paul M. Hebert Law Center at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. On several occasions, Mike has been included in “Who’s Who of New Orleans,” in recognition of his professional achievements and community service. He is a member of the LSU Law School Board of Trustees and LSU Chancellors Counsel. Mike is also Legal Counsel to the Better Business Bureau of Acadiana, Inc., and is the current Vice-Chair of Ascension Episcopal School Board. He is a member of the Lafayette Parish and Louisiana State Bar Associations and the State Bar of Texas. In addition, Mike is a member of the Louisiana Association of Defense Counsel, Louisiana Association for Justice, American Board of Trial Advocates, and American Inns of Court. Mike was selected to Louisiana Super Lawyers from 2007–2009. Mike is a frequent lecturer to individuals and organizations having an interest in his law concentrations. He is married to the former Lea Ann Young, and the couple has three children.
