Born in Alexandria, Louisiana, John graduated from Bolton High School in 1962. He attended Tulane University where he obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1965, and his Juris Doctorate in 1968. John has been a partner in several firms in both Lake Charles and Lafayette since he began to practice law in 1968. He has practiced for many years in the defense of complex litigation and mass tort claims arising out of the oil and gas industry, but has also represented litigants in a variety of other cases. John is admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States, the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, all United States District Courts in Louisiana, as well as all Louisiana State Courts. He is a member of the Louisiana State Bar Association, the Lafayette Parish Bar Association, the Louisiana Association of Defense Counsel, the Louisiana Association for Justice, and the State Bar of Texas. He has been “AV” rated with Martindale-Hubbell since 1988. John also served as a Trustee of the American Inns of Court Foundation of Washington, D.C., and was Co-chairman of the Foundation’s Annual Fund Committee. He is a Master of the Bench in the Acadiana Inn of Court, and has been elected to membership in the Louisiana Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates of which he is the current President. John was included in the 2009 edition of the Best Lawyers in America and was selected to Louisiana Super Lawyers in 2010 -2014. John is a Fellow with the Litigation Counsel of America. He is also a Fellow of the Louisiana Bar Foundation and a past chairman and member of the Development Committee. John has been married since 1966 to the former Mary Scanlan and they have two children.
